Autograph letter signed from Marie Antoinette Nathalie Granier Dowell Pollard to William Winter [manuscript], 1878 May 22.

Pollard writes that she has a new play she would like to submit to Winter. Signed from Natalie Pollard, widow of Edward A. Pollard, editor of Buchanan's "Examiner." On embossed letterhead of Island City Mills. A small photograph has been pasted to the second leaf [possibly depicting Pollard?].

Marie Antoinette Nathalie (Granier) Dowell Pollard, reader and lecturer active in the 1870's and 1880's, was born in Norfolk, Virginia, the daughter of a West Indian planter, Pierre Granier. Her birth date is not known. She was first married to James R. Dowell, by whom she had several children, but separated from him during the Civil War because of political differences.
